Time for today’s new song from Tastiera’s “13” album. Here is the Alleged Artist…

Each us has encountered people that are unable – and that word appears to be apt, unable – to consider anything but themselves. One of the keys to happiness in life is to minimize the amount of time you spend around those people. Unfortunately, those are the exact people most likely to run for a political office. This is particularly problematic when a person is so narcissistic that they are willing to do anything to achieve and maintain power and attention. It’s not hard to see which politicians are the best (worst?) at that. We seem biologically wired to follow alphas, and narcissists seem biologically wired to be alphas (or at least to aspire to that). This might help explain why so many truly bad people have risen to positions of power over the millennia – always with considerable help from “the people”. Some of “the people” are just as bad. But most either don’t realize or don’t remember how bad the results can be. Hence song #5 on “13”, “Narcissus”:

Despite its depressing topic, this was a shamelessly fun song to put together and vocalize. All of the music is from the 2020’s, with most of it dating back to 2020. The lyrics are from this past May, and didn’t take long to write. Did I mention I wrote the words and the music? Yes that’s right, me. Me, me, me.

LYRICS

It’s so adorable, the way you think that I care about you
And so deplorable, but that feeds your own pride
This community of hate is my gift to you
And my impunity is how you’ve replied

I don’t believe in anything but me
You don’t believe anyone but me

I’m not invincible ’til you choose to make me so
It’s so predictable that you’ll go that way
Cult of personality will erase what you used to know
Then your reality is whatever I say

I don’t believe in anything but me
You don’t believe anyone but me
I can’t believe in anything but me
You can’t believe that I could be just me

I’m on the stage now, just look at me
I’m all the rage now, just look at me
I set the pace now, just look at me
I’m all in your face now, just look at me
You put me here, now just worship me
I played to your fears, now just worship me
Why doesn’t everybody just worship me
Why doesn’t everybody just worship me

I don’t believe in anything but me
You don’t believe anyone but me

Me, and you think it’s you

It’s me
